By NANETTE LoBIONDO GALLOWAY
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Land Resource Protection will hold in-person and virtual public fact-finding meetings on permit applications submitted for Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project 1 and 2.
The project includes 200 wind turbine generators at 10 offshore substations, one permanent meteorological tower and temporary meteorological buoys within the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's lease area 8.7 miles off the NJ coast. Electric transmission cables in Project 1 will be buried under the sea floor and make landfall in Atlantic City, and Project 2 will be offshore in Monmouth County, and generate 11 gigawatts of energy by 2040.
Project 1 proposes installations in federal waters 3 nautical miles off the coastline with cables coming onshore at California Avenue in Atlantic City with underground interconnection cable traveling 13.9 miles through Atlantic City, Pleasantville, and Egg Harbor Township to a substation on Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township in Cardiff.
