Downbeach towns will be putting out the welcome mat next weekend to open the summer season at the Jersey shore.
Included in the lineup of events, are memorial services to honor those brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Flags will fly at half-staff until noon Monday, May 27 to memorialize those who died to ensure Americans can celebrate freedom as a way of life.
Memorial Day parades and services will be held as follows:
Ventnor
Ventnor starts the Downbeach lineup of Memorial Day remembrance services with a solemn ceremony at the veterans monument on the Cambridge Avenue Plaza 9 a.m. Monday, at Ventnor City Hall, 6201 Atlantic Ave.
Margate
Margate Mothers Association will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade 10 a.m. Monday, followed by a memorial service at All Wars Memorial Park in the Parkway section of the city.
Parade lineup begins 9:15 a.m. at Margate Municipal Building, 9001 Winchester Ave. Step-off is at 10 a.m. The parade travels north on Ventnor Avenue to the park. Children and families are encouraged to show their colors, decorate their bicycles and wagons, and march in the parade.
Longport
American Legion Post 469 will hold its annual Memorial Day program starting at 11 a.m.
A parade steps off at 11 a.m. from the lineup spot at 33
rd and Atlantic avenues. The parade route turns left at 35
th Avenue and left again at Ventnor Avenue and proceeds to Thomas B. Reed Park at the foot of the Longport Bridge, where a solemn service will be held.
The service includes a fly over by the 177
th Fighter Wing of the NJ Air National Guard. Military guest of honor is last year’s Wounded Warrior Week recipient, U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Phillip Fong, who will be featured speaker.
Hot dogs and drinks will be served afterward at the park behind Borough Hall.

The
Ventnor City Farmers Market will open for the summer season 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, May 24 in the parking lot at St. James Church, Atlantic and Newport avenues. The market features more than 60 local food service and craft vendors. Free parking is available in the area during market hours.

Opening of the Beach 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25 on the beach in front of Ventnor Beach Patrol Headquarters on Suffolk Avenue.
Ventnor begins its weekly
Summer Concert Series 5-9 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at Ski Beach, Dorset and Burk avenues. The concert venue features food trucks and vendors. For more information, see https://www.vcfm.org/
The annual
Kenny Wayland Memorial 5K/10K/Fun Walk steps off 9 a.m., Sunday, May 26 at Atlantic and Newport avenues. Registration is $25 in advance, $30 on Saturday and race day. T-shirts available while supplies last. Awards and refreshments provided after the event.
