DOWNBEACH - This year’s LeTour de Downbeach will pedal its way through Downbeach towns and Atlantic City Sunday, June 2 paying tribute to one of the tour’s original organizers, Ann Marie Wiesen of Ventnor, who died last year.
A wave of yellow shirts will start the 15
th annual leisurely 12-mile bike tour on the Ventnor City boardwalk at Newport Avenue starting at 9:30 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been set for June 9.
“Le Tour is a great way to kick off the start of summer, one of the happiest times of year, and enjoy the biggest family bike ride at the shore,” said Mike Wiesen, owner of AAAA Bike Shop and founder of what was then called, Le Tour de Ventnor in 2009. “We look forward to seeing all of our returning riders and welcoming some new friends on June 2.”
Registration will take place behind the Ventnor Library on Newport Avenue. Riders can warm up and stretch with Jackie Fox of Fox Fitness 4 You at the registration area.
The flat course travels along the boardwalk to Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall at Kennedy Plaza, where it will turn around and travel through Ventnor, Margate and Longport, ending at Tomatoe’s Restaurant on Amherst Avenue in Margate where a barbeque will be held.
Free water ice will be provided by Margate Dairy Bar and Burger. The Margate Wawa will offer free coupons that can be used later. Atlantic County Toys for Kids is also a sponsor.
Online registration ends at noon on Friday, May 31, but riders can register in person Sunday, June 2 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
