MARGATE – The Board of Commissioners Nov. 7 awarded several contracts to rebuild roads, purchase ambulance equipment and make improvements to the Sigmund Rimm Recreation Complex. It also agreed to extend a municipal court agreement with Longport and signed an employment agreement to fill a position in the Construction Office.

The board awarded a $131,189 contract to purchase two Power Pro 2 ambulance cots and two MTS Power Load cot fasteners to Stryker Sales, LLC, an authorized Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing System vendor.

According to Fire Chief Dan Adams the stretchers will be installed in two of the city’s three ambulances.

“They significantly reduce any potential injuries as the stretcher is loaded through a power system versus manually loading them,” he said. “We are the last EMS entity in our area to have this type of stretcher system.”

The board also awarded two contracts to reconstruct roadways.

L. Ferriozzi Concrete Company of Atlantic City was awarded a $1,914,948 contract to reconstruct portions of Bayshore, Fremont, Nassau and Fredericksburg avenues. Ferriozzi was the low-bidder of three bids received on Oct. 31.

Ferriozzi was also awarded a $1,068,784 contract to reconstruct the 300- and 400-blocks of Thurlow Avenue. The company provided the lowest of six bids received on Oct. 10.

The city also awarded Ferriozzi a $42,900 contract to build a lacrosse wall at the recreational complex on Jerome Avenue. The contract was below the $44,000 threshold that requires public bidding.

The board also agreed to extend an interlocal shared services agreement with the Borough of Longport to hold municipal court sessions in Margate. The agreement allows the two municipalities to extend the municipal court arrangement until Dec. 31, 2025, with a one year optional extension to Dec. 31, 2026. Longport will have until Oct. 1, 2025 to notify Margate that it intends to stay with the arrangement through 2026. Longport will pay Margate $42,000 each year, payable in equal monthly installments of $3,500.

The agreement calls for Margate to provide a municipal court judge, prosecutor and public defender, court administrator and deputy administrator, and use of the courtroom at Historic City Hall, 1 S. Washington Ave., along with judge’s chambers, office equipment and computers. Administrative offices will be located at the Margate Municipal Building, 9001 Winchester Ave.  Longport will pay salary and wages for the judge, prosecutor and public defender and provide storage for its court records.

The board also agreed to advertise bids for vending ice cream and water on the beach. The offering includes the summers of 2025, 2026 and 2027. The minimum bid amount is $50,000 per year.

In a personnel matter, the city approved an employment agreement for Technical Assistant to the Construction Official Palma Shiles to be Office Supervisor of the Construction Office. Shiles, who has been with the city since January 2016, has been doing the job since May 13. She will work no less than 35 hours a week and earn a base pay of $87,980, with a 2.5% increase in 2025.
