MAYS LANDING - Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers Men’s Soccer center Nick Maldanado was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s All-Region 19 and All-Garden State Athletic Conference Division III 2nd Teams on Oct. 30.
As captain, Maldanado, a sophomore, played a key leadership role on a rebuilding Buccaneers squad that struggled to a 1-12 record in only the program’s second season since being revived in 2021. In 12 games played, Maldanado scored three goals, was credited with one assist, attempted 12 shots and had four shots on goal, and was one-for-one in penalty kicks.
“This is a great achievement for Nick. He has been a key figure for us as we rebuild Atlantic Cape Soccer,” Head Coach Luis Paz said. “Last year was an adjustment year for him with life after high school as a student athlete. This year he took leadership of the team and he really helped the first-year student athletes adjust to the team.”
Maldanado came to Atlantic Cape with experience playing for clubs such as the Player Development Academy in Somerset and Prestige Soccer Training in Egg Harbor Township.
“With this (Nick’s) achievement, future Atlantic Cape student athletes can see for themselves that they have the potential to succeed and achieve their goals here and that it is possible to be a successful player in our program,” Paz said.
