UPDATE: Raccoon responsible for daylong Atlantic City power outage

  • Atlantic City

A raccoon was responsible for a daylong power outage in Atlantic City.

Animal contact at the Ontario substation knocked out power at 11 p.m. Sunday, Atlantic City Electric spokeswoman Candice Womer said.

About 1,500 customers lost power, with several traffic lights out throughout the city.

Officers were at major intersections and stop signs at others, Capt. Kevin Fair told BreakingAC.

Motorists were urged to use caution and treat intersections as a four-way stop.

Atlantic City Electric Crews worked as safely and as quickly as possible and service was restored to all customers by 9:10 p.m. Monday, Womer said.

"We remained in communication with the city and office of emergency management to keep officials updated throughout the day," she said. "We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers."
