Original Story

Sixers rookie guard Jared McCain walked off the floor with minimal support and went straight to the locker room after taking a hard fall under the basket in Wednesday's preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets.

McCain was evaluated by medical staff after the fall, including for a concussion, according to Sixers officials.

McCain went to the hospital for further evaluation, Nick Nurse told reporters after the game.

"It was rough...Obviously, he was having some trouble breathing there. I thought maybe he got the wind knocked out of him. But, not sure what was going on there. But, never quite seen one like that before. So, let's hope he's OK and see what the report is from the hospital," Nurse said.

"Just making sure he's OK at the end of the day. You know, that's our brother. That's our teammate," reserve guard Jeff Dowtin Jr. said of his vantage point on the fall and what went through his mind in that moment.

Dowtin saw McCain after the game, implying that the early indications are that the rookie avoided a traumatic injury.

"So, I think everything's going to be fine. You know, we're praying for him, obviously. He's a warrior. Tough, hard-nosed player," Dowtin said.

"So, things are going to be OK. We're just wishing him the best right now."

The Sixers will provide further updates as appropriate.
