MARGATE – Hundreds of ghosts, goblins, princesses and fairies were out in force Friday night in the field and parking lot of the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School.
The late afternoon of the city’s Halloween happening took place in the field across from the Tighe School. Dubbed Boo Fest, the Margate Education Foundation set up various stations around the perimeter of the field where children, some dressed in their Halloween costumes, took turns playing games. One of the highlights of the game playing was trying to dunk Fire Chief Dan Adams in the dunk tank. Children also enjoyed taking a hayride around the field.
The event was held to raise money for foundation programs benefiting students enrolled in the Margate City public schools, including school clubs and activities.
Around the other side of the building later in the day, the city’s Police, Fire, Beach Patrol and Public Works unions sponsored their annual Trunk or Treat event. Children in costumes went from vehicle to vehicle collecting candy and treats offered by community organizations and businesses. Even some parents got to dress up in costumes – the witches came in threes, of course.
The event was free, but many parents brought a gently used or new coat to fill the Margate surf boat. By the end of the evening, the coats were piled up high and will be donated to those who need them.
The hallways inside the school were decorated with two themes: one for younger children and a scary one for upperclassmen.
A highlight of the evening was Leslie’s Dance Studio performing a dance with a circus theme.
