The Atlantic County Mayors’ Association recently approved a resolution opposing proposed rate increases by Atlantic City Electric. The resolution calls on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to reject an additional 8% increase following a 17% hike set to take effect in June.
Mayors Michael Collins of Margate, Tim Kriebel of Ventnor, Patrick Armstrong of Longport and Vince Sera of Brigantine supported the resolution, along with mayors of 11 other Atlantic County municipalities.
“These increases are an unacceptable burden on hardworking families and small businesses across Atlantic County,” Sera said in a release. “The cost of living is already skyrocketing, and now residents are being asked to shoulder yet another massive utility rate hike. We cannot stand by while these costs continue to rise unchecked.”
The bipartisan resolution highlights the urgent need for greater transparency and consumer protection in the rate setting process. It urges residents and businesses to voice their opposition by filing complaints with the NJBPU and contacting the governor’s office to demand action.
