MARGATE – New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation Program Manager Harry J. Delgado presented Margate Police Chief Matthew Hankinson with the department’s third accreditation Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Board of Commissioners meeting.
Delgado noted the “exemplary work” of the department in achieving the milestone, which only 8% of law enforcement agencies in New Jersey ever achieve.
The department was first accredited in 2016 and has undergone extensive examination that ensures the department employs the highest standards and best practices of law enforcement.
Under the guidance of Lt. Joseph Scullion, the department demonstrated that it complies with all the recommended administrative, personnel, operations, investigations functions, and employs the highest standards when it detains suspects or makes arrests.
The program reviewed the department’s policies and procedures during an audit conducted earlier this year by outside law enforcement professionals. The rigorous process included an onsite assessment and input from the public about police services.
According to Delgado, the accreditation board voted unanimously to award re-accreditation.
“Chief Hankinson and the men and women of the department are thankful and appreciative that the work we do, and the high standards we hold ourselves to, continue to allow MCPD to be recognized as among the best police departments in the State of New Jersey,” the department posted on social media.
