Ventnor City issued an advisory on its social media pages today, noting city officials are closely monitoring Hurricane Erin and its potential impacts along our coastline this week.
While it may look like sunny skies and comfortable temperatures, conditions in the ocean will be very dangerous.
️Dangerous rip currents are expected through Saturday, with the strongest conditions Tuesday through Friday.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect Monday through Friday. Wave heights will be 5-8 feet Monday andTuesday and Saturday; 9-12 feet Wednesday through Friday. Boating will be extremely hazardous midweek.
Even back bay waters will be choppy, with wave heights of 2-3 feet.
Neighborhoods accustomed to flooding will experience minor coastal flooding: during one or both high tides Thursday through Saturday.
Although the ocean water remains warm in the low to mid-70s and the weather will be pleasant, the surf will be unsafe for swimmers and boater.
As the tourism season is winding down, but still active, residents and visitors are urged to use extra caution near the water.
"Ventnor City will continue to share updates as conditions develop. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to monitor both local and national weather forecasts throughout the week."
