MARGATE - Beth Israel congregation of Northfield continued its beloved summer tradition of Kabbalat Shabbat Aug. 15 on the Huntington Avenue beach.
Worshippers gathered enjoyed cool ocean breezes and the cries of sea gulls provided a serene backdrop for the service led by Rabbi Michael L. Feshbach and Cantor Marshall Portnoy.
Beth Israel has hosted this unique experience for more than 30 years. It was the first congregation in the area to bring Shabbat to the shore.
Beth Israel is the largest Reform congregation on the mainland in South Jersey, welcoming diversity, interfaith families, LGBTQ Jews and partners, Jews of color, and all types of modern Jewish families.
