Time to clean out the cupboards and help stock the JFS food pantry shelves

  • Community

MARGATE - The end of the summer season occurs around Labor Day when residents and visitors dip their toes in the ocean one last time, purchase a few souvenirs, and head back home to start the school years. That's also the time to clean out the cupboards.

For those individuals and families who have a surplus of non-perishable foods, basic essentials, and baby products and prefer not to lug them back home, Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties should be your last stop before heading home.

JFS will accept canned and boxed goods, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, tuna, vegetables, pasta, soups, snacks, and more, to keep the organization's food pantry stocked. Food and personal care items items may drop-off items 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the JFS Pantry, 607 N. Jerome Ave.

From January to June of this year, JFS distributed 74,550 pounds of food and basic essentials, including more than 5,550 pounds of produce. In addition, JFS delivered 1,265 Kosher meals to older adults.

“The food security program at JFS provides nutritious, healthy food options to individuals in need in the community,” CEO Andrea Steinberg said. “With people cleaning their cupboards at summer’s end and donating products to our agency, we can continue to meet the increased food demand in our region.”
