Worker dies in accident on tower in Atlantic City's Venice Park

  • Breaking

One man is dead after an accident on the radio tower in Atlantic City's Venice Park neighborhood.

Three men were doing work working near the top of the 310-foot structure near the 300 block of Murray Avenue at about 4:30 p.m., according to the city.

The exact nature of the deceased man's injuries were not known.

The other two workers took turns performing CPR to try to revive the victim, but were unsuccessful.

Dozens of firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel worked for approximately 90 minutes to lower the three men.

“Our team are well trained for these kinds of incidents,” Fire Chief Scott Evans said. “It is just another example of how our firefighters are prepared for any call at any time.”

A large section of the tower fell to the ground, while an additional piece remains suspended near the top of the structure. The Atlantic City Police Department has established a perimeter around the site until the hanging section can be safely secured and removed.

“We are asking residents of Venice Park to use caution when in the area and respect the ACPD’s perimeter,” Public Safety Director Sean Riggin said. “We are working diligently to resolve this issue as soon as possible."

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation a spokesman confirmed to BreakingAC, adding that they cannot provide any details, including the name of the company.

OSHA has six months to complete the investigation. During that time, no additional information will be provided.
