ATLANTIC CITY - Older adults at Beron Jewish Older Adult Services are experiencing the therapeutic benefits of art through a series of hands-on workshops supported by the Mosaic Foundation.
The sessions are designed to enhance emotional well-being, encourage self-expression, and foster social connection, which are key components of healthy aging.
In a recent workshop heldled by artist Laurie Staller at the JOAS center in Atlantic City, participants painted colorful fall trees on canvas, experimenting with color blending and brush techniques to create deeply personal works. For many seniors, the experience served as an important outlet for communication at a time when expressing feelings and memories can be increasingly challenging.
“Art therapy opens the door for meaningful connection,” said Erin Luurtsema, director of Philanthropy at Mosaic. “It gives seniors a chance to express themselves in ways that words sometimes can’t.”
