It seems that McDonald’s fans in Ocean City will have to go elsewhere for their Big Macs, Quarter Pounders and French fries.
The McDonald’s restaurant at Ninth Street and West Avenue is closing on Sunday, according to multiple posts on social media.
Linda Romain, a manager at McDonald’s and three-year employee, said she found out that Sunday will be her last day. She noted that her “heart hurts.”
“Got the worst news today at my job. The McDonald's is closing. Sunday will be the last day. Sad that is so close to Christmas. (The) hardest part is gonna be to find another job around this time. I've been there for 3 years,” Romain posted on her Facebook page.
In another social media post, Ocean City resident Marianne Brewer also confirmed that McDonald’s will close on Sunday.
“For anyone wondering why McDonald's at 9th & West is closing, a manager told me they are NOT remodeling. She said the building needs a lot of repairs. Last day is this Sunday, 12/14,” Brewer wrote on Facebook.
But Mayor Jay Gillian said he understands that McDonald's will be closing on Monday. He also said that a press release is coming about the closing, but that's all the city has been told so far.
McDonald’s corporate office could not be reached for comment Wednesday about the closing.
The Press of Atlantic City reported that city tax records show the property is owned by McDonald’s Real Estate Company of Columbus, Ohio, and last sold in 2014 for just over $2 million.
McDonald’s occupies a high-profile spot on the corner of Ninth and West, entering the downtown business district on the busy Ninth Street corridor.
The prime location would lend itself to redevelopment, meaning that the old restaurant building likely will be demolished and replaced with modern construction – following the path of other new projects lining the Ninth Street entryway in recent years.
