Longport welcomes the holiday season at Borough Hall

  • Holiday Events

LONGPORT - The borough held its annual Christmas Tree and Menorah LIghting early Friday evening in the park behind Borough Hall.

The weather outside was frightfully cold and families huddled with hot chocolate and donuts in hand to enjoy some carols presented by the Aurora Singing Society, a group of choir singers who dress in 19th century garb for a look back at Victorian days.

The event was organized by the Longport Public Library.

Santa Claus arrived aboard a Longport Volunteer Fire Department truck with a basket filled with candy to give to good little boys and girls.

After Santa lit the tree and menorah, the crowd moved indoors into the meeting room where children took pictures with Santa and children from the William H. Ross Elementary School, under the direction of teacher Lindsey Evans, presented a concert of poems and holiday songs, including "Frosty the Snowman" and "The Dreidel Song."

The concert finished just in time for the children to attend the holiday festivities in nearby Margate.

Enjoy some photos from the event.
