Eric Wise, a 44-year-old Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office sergeant, suffered a tragic life-threatening fall Monday night.
Wise has always supported his community, according to a GoFundMe set up for the severely injured officer. Now, his community is turning out for his family.
A GoFundMe started to help his wife and two daughters has now surpassed the $50,000 goal with more than 420 donations.
"Eric has spent his life serving and protecting others — both in his professional role as a detective and in his personal life as a loving husband and father," wrote Greg Henderson, who organized the GoFundMe. "Now, it’s time for us to support him and his family during this incredibly difficult time."
Wise previously worked for the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, where he "exemplified the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood," according to a post on the office's Facebook page.
"His commitment to his family, his work and his community is evident in the countless lives he has touched through his compassion and dedication," the GoFundMe states.
The fundraiser is to give his wife, Antonia, and daughters, Abigail and Kaelen, "the support they need to navigate this uncertain future."
