The Board of Commissioners Wednesday promoted Owen Kramer to full-time status in the Longport Police Department.
Kramer, a lifelong resident of the borough, has served as a special law enforcement officer for the last two years and has demonstrated dedication and commitment in service to the residents of Longport.
“It means a lot to have an officer of his character in the Police Department,” Police Chief Frank Culmone said after Commissioner of Public Safety Dan Lawler administered the oath of office.
Kramer attended the Margate schools and is a 2018 graduate of Holy Spirit High School, where he excelled as a member of the school’s football team. He graduated from Widener University with a degree in criminal justice, and later attended the Gloucester County Police Academy.
Kramer is the great-grandson of Capt. Jim Turner, a historical figure who contributed greatly to the borough’s history.
Turner was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Station located in Longport from 1920-1934 and later became the first chief of the Longport Beach Patrol. He was the sole survivor of the valiant rescue of the sloop, Anna, which claimed the lives of five Coast Guardsmen. The Longport Beach Patrol honors Turner each year with the Capt. Turner Swim.
