Longport seeks ice cream vendor for summer season

  • Business

LONGPORT - It's not even spring yet, but thoughts are turning toward summer fun at the Jersey shore. The Board of Commissioners Feb. 19 issued a request for proposals for a vendor to sell ice cream and water on the beach this summer.

The board approved a resolution setting the guidelines for the vendor, which includes maximum prices that can be charged for water.

The minimum bid amount is $29,000. A $2,000 deposit must accompany the bid proposal, which is due to the City Clerk’s Office by 1 p.m. March 13.

The successful bidder will be entitled to an automatic one-year renewal with a 5% increase over the 2025 contract amount.

Specifications that must be followed include no more than five employees wearing clean, neat white clothing free of commercial advertising, except for promoting the products being sold. Employees will be subject to a police background check. Vendors are permitted to carry containers on their shoulders or use non-motorized wheeled carts with prices prominently displayed on the container or cart.

Maximum amounts that can be charged for water are $1.50 for a 12-ounce bottle, $2 for 16.9 ounce bottles, and $3 for larger sizes.

The dates for vending are May 15 to Oct. 14 along the beaches between 36th and 11th avenues.

The board also approved the dates for picnicking or barbecuing on the beach. Charcoal grills 36 inches or smaller will be allowed 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26; Independence Day weekend, July 4-6; and Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.

Coals must be extinguished with water, wrapped in aluminum foil and deposited next to the nearest trash receptacle. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

For more information, contact the City Clerk’s Office at Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave., or 609-823-2731.
