JFS plans 'Soup'er Bowl' canned soup collection

  • Community

MARGATE - While millions of sports enthusiasts will watch the 59th annual "big game" on television, Jewish Family Service of Atlantic and Cape May Counties will host a ‘Soup’er Bowl. To help combat food insecurity, JFS will collect canned and packaged soups for community members to enjoy during the cold winter months.

“At JFS, we are committed to addressing the needs of people in the community, particularly by ensuring access to nutritious and hearty foods,” JFS CEO Andrea Steinberg said. “We appreciate the residents, businesses, and other supporters who contribute soups during this collection which will help alleviate food insecurity across the region.”

In 2024, the pantry distributed nearly 230,000 pounds of food including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, poultry, frozen foods, and non-perishable products to 11,400 adults and 3,485 children. With the need for food and basic necessities continuing to escalate, JFS has become a ‘go-to’ pantry for local residents.

The ‘Soup’er Bowl collection encourages donors to drop-off hearty soups. Cans with pop-tops are appreciated and make for easy opening, especially for people with limited access to can openers.

Donations for the ‘Soup’er Bowl will be accepted from now through Feb. 7 at JFS, 607 N. Jerome Ave. The agency is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

For people in need of food, the JFS Food Pantry is open to residents 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
