MARGATE - The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service offers cool programs during the hot summer season. Here’s your chance to participate in eight fun, unique and entertaining programs in July.

Village Film Society, Tuesday, July 8, 10:30 a.m.

Join Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion of the movie, “My Cousin Vinny,” about an inexperienced New York attorney, Vinny, representing his cousin, Bill, and friend, Stan, who were falsely accused of committing murder in a small Alabama town. The movie stars Ralph Macchio, Joe Pesci, Fred Gwynne and Marisa Tomei, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in her role. Available for free on Tubi, and at the Ventnor and Margate libraries. Available for a fee on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango, Google Play Movies, Hulu, and YouTube. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by July 3.

Lunch Around Town, Thursday, July 10, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, dine at Fitzpatrick’s Deli & Steakhouse, 650 New Road, Somers Point. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by July 8.

Brunch & Learn: Margins of Memory – Forgotten Voices, Wednesday, July 16, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Explore the rich, yet often overlooked, history of the Roma and Sinti people of Europe, from their migration out of northern India, to their diverse cultural traditions across the continent. Roma have long-faced marginalized, persecution and harmful stereotypes. The program will trace their resilience, cultural identity, and ongoing fight for recognition, while confronting dark chapters of history. Attend in-person at Beth El Synagogue, 500 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. RSVP by July 8.

Village Goes to the Ventnor Farmers Market, Friday, July 18, 8:30 a.m. to noon

Visit or volunteer at the Village information table at the Ventnor Farmers Market, in St. James parking lot, New Haven and Atlantic avenue. Meet, greet and share your enthusiasm for Village events and services as you enjoy sunshine and shopping from local farmers and vendors.

Musical Connections, Wednesday, July 23, 1 p.m.

Feel the stress of the day peel away as we share familiar tunes from various genres (Broadway, classical, contemporary, jazz and more) and instruments with friends and neighbors. Whether you are a caregiver, cared for, or just a community member, attend in-person on the second floor of the Ventnor Library, 6500 Atlantic Ave. RSVP by July 18.

Throwback Thursday: The Lost Shuls of the Pine Barrens, Thursday, July 24 10:30 a.m. to noon

Join Jewish Federation of Atlantic & Cape May Counties Executive Director Rachel Waldman, Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler, and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as they host a captivating journey into the forgotten Jewish past of South Jersey’s hidden synagogues and Jewish communities built by immigrant farmers, peddlers and Holocaust survivors, who sought refuge in the NJ Pinelands. Discover how faith, memory, and identity were preserved in wooden shuls, nestled among cranberry bogs and pine trees and why their stories continue to matter today. Attend in-person at Beth El Synagogue, 500 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. RSVP by July 17.

Memoir Workshop, Friday, July 25, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Experience the thrill of capturing life’s adventures, history, and ancestry with the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing Harriet Levin Millan. Learn about publishing your work. A laptop or pen and paper is needed for the workshop. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by July 22.

Unless noted, all programs are free to participate. You must RSVP for any program by contacting Tina Serota at tserota@jfsatlantic.org or 609-287=8872. A Zoom link will be emailed, if needed.
