Ventnor Police to hold DWI checkpoint

  • Public Safety

Ventnor Police will be holding a DWI (driving while intoxicated) checkpoint on Atlantic Avenue 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday into Sunday, July 26-27.

The primary objective is to deter and prevent motorists from drinking and driving with the hopes of eliminating the practice altogether.

According to state law, advance notice of the checkpoint must be provided to the motoring public. This advance notice will hopefully discourage members of the public from drinking and driving, Ventnor Police Chief Joseph T. Wooton said in a release.

The checkpoint is being funded throught he Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund, which collects money from fines and penalties assessed to drivers who are found guilty of driving while intoxicated.

The checkpoint will be staffed by Ventnor City Police officers and the Atlantic
