The five wind turbines in Atlantic City have become a welcoming sight along the drive into Atlantic City. But did you know the turbines create energy for a critical service that keeps waterways clean?
The Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm supplies power for the Atlantic County Utilities Authority Wastewater Treatment Plant, which does the important job of treating wastewater from thousands of residents and visitors before it is safely released into the ocean. This process ensures our waterways are open for recreational swimming, fishing and more.
Curious visitors can stop by at noon every "Windsday" in July and August for free open house tours of the wind farm and wastewater treatment plant located at 1801 Absecon Blvd. in Atlantic City. Tours last approximately one hour, and reservations are not required.
“Visitors are welcome to stop in and learn more about renewable energy and the role it plays in powering our facility,” ACUA President Matthew DeNafo said. “The tours are educational, fun, and something different for visitors to do down the shore.”
