VENTNOR – The Planning Board and Board of Commissioners will hold special meetings Monday, June 30 to consider the city’s fourth round of the Fair Share Housing Plan proposed by the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH). The Planning Board will meet at 1 p.m. to dicuss the issue and make a recommendation, and the commission will meet at 2 p.m. to consider the board's recommendation.
The public is invited to provide comments about the plan, which requires the city to provide its fair share of affordable housing.
According to the state’s Fourth Round Present Need and Prospective Need Obligation plan, Ventnor currently has a present need of establishing 24 affordable housing units in the city and a prospective need for 14 additional affordable housing units.
At the 2 p.m. meeting, which will be held on Zoom, the commission will consider endorsing the plan being considered by the Ventnor Planning Board at 1 p.m. June 30.
The proposed Fourth Round Housing Element and Fair Share Plan was prepared in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:55D-28(b)(3) of the Municipal Land Use Law and the mandatory requirements of a Housing Element under the recently amended New Jersey Fair Housing Act (P.L. 2024, c.2), relevant regulations of the New Jersey Council On Affordable Housing (“COAH”), and the Administrative Office of the Courts Directive #14-24. The Fourth Round Housing Element and Fair Share Plan also delineates the actions taken, and to be taken, by the city to create a “realistic opportunity” to satisfy its “fair share” of the regional need for affordable housing.
A copy of the proposed plan is on file in the Planning Department office for public inspection at the Ventnor City Municipal Building, 6201 Atlantic Ave.
