Van Drew must listen to constituents' concerns

To the Editor:

Congressman Van Drew called the protesters who showed up at his Northfield office on February 21 "the radical left". I am a 70-year-old grandmother worried about my social security and Medicare. I am his constituent, not from out of state, not radical left and not unhinged and vicious as the Congressman claims.

Congressman Van Drew represents the three of poorest counties in the state, yet he consistently votes against our best interest and recently voted on a budget resolution that would cut Medicare and Medicaid, the very programs that his constituents depend on.

I have repeatedly requested that he hold a town hall, but my requests are ignored. I guess the Congressman is too busy appearing on Fox News to listen to his constituents' concerns - or maybe he is just too afraid to hear what we have to say. All of those protesters were at his office for one reason only: we want our congressman to protect his constituents, not bend the knee to Musk and Trump.

He has betrayed his constituents time and time again, and now he is depicting us as crazy, vicious picketers. No, Congressman, we are the residents of Congressional District 2. We pay your salary, and we expect you to represent all of us and listen to our concerns, not denigrate and belittle us.
