LONGPORT – The borough will formally appoint a new business administrator at its next Board of Commissioners meeting. After interviewing seven candidates, the board offered a former longtime law enforcement officer a position as part-time business administrator.
Mayor Patrick Armstrong welcomed former Toms River Deputy Police Chief Patrick Dellane to the borough during the March 19 meeting, and thanked CFO Jenna Kelly and Commissioner Jim Ulmer for overseeing the interview process.
“Pat stood out as someone we see as a family member,” Ulmer said.
Dellane retired from the Toms River Police Department last July after 29 years on the police force. During his police career, he held every position in the department's hierarchy.
He is a graduate of Stockton University (formerly The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey) with a BA in criminal justice. He has a master’s degree in administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is a Certified Public Manager, NJSACOP Accredited Command Executive, and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He is also a lifetime firefighter.
Dellane is a lifelong resident of Toms River where he lives with his wife Patty and son Patrick, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
The borough is negotiating an employment contract for Dellane to work on a part-time basis starting April 1, Armstrong said.
He replaces A. Scott Porter, a retired Longport police chief who served as business administrator for five years before he passed away in December following a short illness.
