CasinoAlpha on The State of Play for New Jersey’s iGaming Industry

New Jersey’s iGaming industry continues to reach new heights with the end of summer seeing an all-time revenue record of $208.1 million. The 27.1% year-on-year increase included September which marked the second month in a row of record-breaking growth, solidifying iGaming as a key driver of the state’s gambling sector.

Leading operators like DraftKings and FanDuel were huge contributors, generating $45.8 million and $45.3 million, respectively, while Resorts Casino Hotel came out on top of the master licensee rankings with $52.9 million in iGaming revenue.

The sports betting market also flourished. It achieved $119.6 million in revenue for September. That's a 7.6% year-on-year rise. Mobile betting dominated, accounting for $1.03 billion in wagers, and FanDuel led with $48.6 million in revenue. With the land-based casino sector struggling in comparison - with revenue dropping 6.5% year-on-year to $230.6 million – the preference for digital platforms in New Jersey is becoming clearer with each passing year.

The state’s thriving online casino industry is largely down to the progressive approach in New Jersey. Since 2013, Atlantic City’s competitiveness has increased dramatically thanks to the state's forward-thinking approach which has attracted major operators as well as a dedicated customer base. This commercial environment has created a lucrative market, reflected in 2024 in the growth of the top platforms, and has set a standard other states may follow in future.

The Future of iGaming in New Jersey

Significant growth is expected to continue in New Jersey's iGaming sector. This will undoubtedly be fueled by innovation that will be driven by evolving player demands. Increasingly, immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality are expected to transform the online casino experience, bringing together traditional gambling with the convenience of digital platforms. Coupled with the widespread adoption of mobile gambling and the rollout of 5G, operators can deliver faster, more secure, and more engaging experiences, appealing to a broader audience.

However, the industry must address challenges like rising competition from neighboring states and cybersecurity demands. Player satisfaction is another concern. Lessons can be learned from other countries such as the UK where the concept of "responsible gaming" has grown in prominence. This encompasses things like limits on spending that can be set on a user-by-user basis to suit individual needs.

Leading online casino review site Casino Alpha includes responsible gaming tools as one of its key criteria when ranking iGaming platforms for UK players. Dachbet Casino was recently placed among its top recommended sites in large part because of a very high rating for legitimacy and fairness which encompasses overall player satisfaction and clear terms and conditions. Adopting similar nationwide systems in the United States could provide a consistent and more fulfilling experience for players. It also comes down to professionalism. United States casinos could benefit from implementing stricter measures to ensure players get a more secure and transparent gambling environment while fostering innovation to stay competitive in a rapidly growing market.

Growth Set to Continue

New Jersey’s iGaming sector is a shining example of growth driven by innovation and a progressive approach. By embracing cutting-edge technologies and learning from successful international practices, such as the UK’s focus on player safety, the state can continue to evolve, ensuring sustained success and setting new benchmarks for the industry’s future.
