MARGATE - The Marjorie & Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center recently announced the launch of its new PWR!Moves® group exercise classes, a specialized program designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. Classes will begin Tuesday, May 20, and will be held 2:15-3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. in the Group Fitness Studio.
The new group classes build on the foundation laid by the JCC’s Health and Wellness Director Ann Erik and Personal Trainer Michelle Barbera, both of whom completed their Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery Instructor Certification in 2024. This nationally recognized certification enables them to deliver evidence-based, neuroplasticity-focused programming that improves strength, balance, agility, flexibility and aerobic conditioning - all key areas often impacted by Parkinson’s disease.
The PWR!Moves® program, developed by Parkinson Wellness Recovery NeuroFit Networks, integrates functional movement and cognitive challenges in a dynamic, whole-body workout. The classes are designed to maintain and restore motor skills essential for daily living while promoting overall health and well-being.
Participation begins with a complimentary assessment. There is no cost to qualifying individuals thanks to a federal grant from the Division of Intergenerational Services.
Individuals interested in learning more about the program or scheduling a free assessment may contact Ann Erik at 609-822-1167, ext. 132, or via email at aerik@jccatlantic.org. Enrollment is now open, and participants can sign up by completing the form at https://bit.ly/42MV5YK.
