The Greater Atlantic City Chamber of commerce has launched a search for a new president
The move comes after Michael Chait resigned from the position after more than seven years.
"Everything is on outstanding terms and I’m helping with the transition," Chait told BreakingAC on Thursday.
He said he is staying locally and moving into a new position but cannot provide details at this time.
The chamber is working with Jane Asselta, who will serve as leadership consultant.
"I'm actively working with Jane and our executive committee to ensure a smooth leadership transition that positions the chamber for continued success," Chait said. "I am completely confident that this change will bring fresh energy and perspective to serve our business community's evolving needs."
Asselta most recently served as state director for USDA Rural Development, appointed by former President Joe Biden. In that duty, she lead a team of specialists that offered an array of programs and services designed to help residents and businesses in New Jersey’s rural communities increase economic opportunities and improving quality of life standards.
Prior to that appointment, she served as vice president of the Southern New Jersey Development Council, directing membership services, marketing, outreach activities, and legislative affairs for an organization representing over 300 businesses and organizations across eight counties in the state.
"I'm pleased to support the chamber during this pivotal transition period," Asselta said. "I have dedicated my career to public advocacy, economic development and building partnerships across the southern New Jersey region. I look forward to applying that professional experience and expertise to my new role as consultant to help maintain the chamber's positive momentum, while the search for a permanent president for the organization is underway."
The board has formed a search committee to conduct a thorough executive search process. During this period, Asselta will provide consulting services to support day-to-day operations and assist with strategic initiatives.
"We are deeply grateful to Michael Chait for his years of dedicated service to our Chamber and his steadfast advocacy efforts on behalf of the region’s business community," board Chair John Heinz said. “As we navigate this transition, we're committed to finding a dynamic leader who will build upon the strong foundation we have set in recent years. We welcome Jane’s leadership and expertise, as we guide our organization into its next chapter.”
The leadership transition comes as Barbara DeMarco, vice president of Porzio Governmental Affairs, prepares to assume the role of board chair June 1.
A native of Hammonton and seasoned public affairs professional, DeMarco has been pivotal in reshaping the chamber’s focus on advocacy and outreach efforts in that sector.
“We are excited about the energy and vision Barbara will bring as our new chair," Heinz said. "Together with our dedicated staff and board, we're confident this transition will position us for even greater success in serving our business community.".
The Greater Atlantic City Chamber expects to complete the search process and announce a new president this fall.
