Village by the Shore announces June programming

MARGATE - The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties offers a host of fun, interactive and interesting programs in June. With virtual and in-person options, you, your family, friends, and neighbors will enjoy these eight programs.

Thoughts from the Bookshelf, Tuesday, June 3, 3 p.m.

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota to discuss the book, “French Braid” by Anne Tyler. The insightful novel shares a funny, joyful journey into one family’s life and their many fundamental assumptions regarding womanhood, motherhood and aging. Attend in-person at the Margate Library Meeting Room, 8100 Atlantic Ave., Margate. RSVP by May 30.

Holocaust Survivor Day, Wednesday, June 4, 5 p.m.

Join Holocaust survivor Michael Bornstein to honor local survivors, incorporate community connections through Jewish peoplehood, and explore generational wisdom. As co-author of the New York Times best-selling book, “Survivors Club: The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz,” Bornstein was four years old when he was liberated from a concentration camp and made his way to the U.S. six years later. The program is co-sponsored by Seed the Dream Foundation, Jewish Federation of Atlantic & Cape May Counties, Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties, KAVOD, Marjorie & Lewis Katz JCC, and the Stockton University Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center. Brunch & Learn: Jewish Community Life in the Digital Age., Friday, June 6, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Join Rabbi Jacki Menaker to explore modern trends in the digital age, specifically the major impact with online modalities. From virtual services and online learning, discover how technology is reshaping religious practices and cultural engagement. Explore the intersection of tradition and technology and its influence on modern Jewish life. Light brunch will be served. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Auditorium, 501 N. Village Film Society, Tuesday, June 10, 10:30 a.m.

Join film buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion of the movie,” Nonnas,” a true story about Joe Scaravella, owner of the Staten Island restaurant, Enoteca Maria. To honor his mother, Joe risks everything to open a dining establishment with Italian grandmothers as chefs. The movie stars Lorraine Bracco, Susan Sarandon, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro and Vince Vaughn. Available on Netflix. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by June 5.

Brunch and Learn: Sofrut, The Art of the Torah Scribe, Friday, June 13, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Join Rabbi Stephanie Breitsman as she shares her inspiring journey of becoming a soferet, a Hebrew scribe. In this fascinating program, Rabbi Stephanie will take you behind the scenes of the sacred practice of sofrut – the ancient art of hand copying Torah scrolls. Light brunch will be served. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Auditorium, 501 N. Jerome Ave. RSVP by June 9.

Lunch Around Town, Tuesday, June 17, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, dine at Provenza in Ventnor Plaza, 5100 Wellington Ave., Ventnor. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by June 13.

Memoir Workshop, Friday, June 20, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Experience the thrill of capturing life’s adventures, history, and ancestry with the memoir workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing Harriet Levin Millan. Learn about publishing your work. A laptop or pen and paper is needed. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by June 17.

Throwback Thursday, Thursday, June 26, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Join Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as they host an educational brunch retracing the history of Atlantic City and Downbeach. This month, we will focus on Congregation Beth Israel. Attend in-person at Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Rd., Northfield. RSVP by June 23.

The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore is a membership program for adults age 50+ and offers grocery shopping and delivery, intergenerational events, transportation, Kosher Meals and more.
