MARGATE – A fire ripped through the rear of a home on Wellington Avenue Saturday rendering the property uninhabitable, Margate Fire Chief Dan Adams said. The residents were not home at the time and no injuries were reported.
Margate Fire Department was dispatched to 8401 Wellington Ave., on the corner of Jerome and Wellington avenues, shortly before 5 p.m. Nov. 1. A 911 caller reported there was smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.
Firefighters, under the command of Lt. Chris Graves until Deputy Chief Patrick Armstrong arrived, quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters removed siding on the house and checked for extension of the fire up to the second floor storage area over the garage.
Due to extensive smoke damage, the house was deemed uninhabitable, Adams said.
Fire Investigator McCully was on scene to begin his investigation into the cause of the blaze.
The Margate City Police Department provided assistance at the scene.
