ATLANTIC CITY - Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on the World Famous Atlantic City Boardwalk has stood as an iconic entertainment venue in the destination for 93 years, and shows no signs of slowing down.
The holiday season at the country’s first convention center begins this weekend with three days of performances of Disney on Ice, followed by the ninth annual Deck the Hall Festival of Trees benefiting CASA ( Court Appointed Special Advocates).
A premier destination for unforgettable performances, countless big names and events have taken the stage since 1929. The venue hosted the first indoor college football game in 1930 and became the home of the Miss America Pageant in 1940. The space was used as an Army headquarters during WWII and hosted the 1964 Democratic National Convention.
Among the most unique aspects of Boardwalk Hall is that the venue is also home to the world's largest pipe organ, The Midmer-Losh located in the main auditorium, as well as the Kimball pipe organ located in the Adrian Phillips Theatre.
The Midmer-Losh, took three years to complete and was dubbed, “The Sonic. Mt. Rushmore” for how strong the organ needed to be built to be able to fill the space of the auditorium. The pipe organs are truly relics of their time, and thanks to the ongoing efforts of restoration committees, they have been restored to their former glory and original state.
The venue has hosted The Beatles, Elton John and Stevie Nicks and its legacy continues to draw in audiences year after year with top talent.
According to Pollstar, the city is set to earn over $75 million from visitors at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, which is about $3.2 million for every 10,000 attendees. Boardwalk Hall continues to be a must-visit attraction and generates impressive results for the city.
