The Downbeach towns of Margate and Longport are planning special ways to honor veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Veterans of these communities have been honored with banners hanging from streetlights depicting their military photos, branches of service and years of service.
As Nov. 11 marks the national holiday of Veterans Day, ceremonies will be held in their honor.
Margate
A Salute to Veterans will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 at Jefferson and Amherst avenues.
The program honors decorated veterans, families of deceased decorated veterans and partisans of Margate.
A fundraiser will be held at the Margate Log Cabin (purchases in cash only) immediately following the ceremony. Proceeds will help defray the cost of securing banners saluting Margate’s veterans.
Everyone is invited to show support for all who served.
Longport
American Legion Post 469 will hold a brief but meaning ceremony to commemorate Veterans Day 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Thomas B. Reed Park, 27th and Oberon avenues, at the foot of the Longport bridge.
Residents of Longport and neighboring communities are welcome.
