MARGATE – The city will hold a “Salute to Veterans” ceremony 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 on the bayfront promenade at Amherst and Jefferson avenues.
It was months ago that the city established a program to honor veterans by hanging banners on utility poles throughout town. The banners previously installed elsewhere have been moved to the promenade in time for the ceremony on Sunday. The public is encouraged to attend to express gratitude for the sacrifices made, not only by the veterans but also by their families.
Mayor Michael Collins said the first phase of the banner program honors decorated veterans from the City of Margate. The program will be expanded with future phases to honor all veterans who served the country.
“Many of our decorated veterans and families of deceased decorated veterans will be there,” he said.
A fundraiser will be held after the ceremony at The Log Cabin on Jerome Avenue. Proceeds of the event will benefit expansion of the banner program.
