VENTNOR - This year’s Huffin for the Stuffin’ 5K and 1-Mile Run, Walk or Waddle will have you going in circles this year. The annual Ventnor boardwalk run being held 9:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning will take a turn for the benefit of those who might not have much to eat this year.
Because the boardwalk has been partially blocked off for a reconstruction project, the run will have two loops between Martindale and Cambridge avenues, organizer Bill Brooks said.
“We were issued a permit, then we found out the boardwalk would be closed,” he said.
The former president of the Boardwalk Runners Association said the idea of a Thanksgiving waddle came from his wife and daughter who had participated in a run on the Ocean City Boardwalk.
“It included a $40 entry fee, so they suggested we do our own run at no cost except for a canned good that we will donate to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission,” he said.
There is no pre-registration; participants will be asked to sign a waiver at the starting point on Washington Avenue, he said.
“It’s not a big event, but the weather is usually mild. It’s a great way for about 80 to 100 people to start off their Thanksgiving eating frenzy,” he said. “Just lace up your running shoes and come on out for a fun run on the boardwalk.”
The start time is 9:30 a.m.
The first place male and female finishers win a pumpkin pie, he said.
