MAYS LANDING

Alleged Hamilton burglar arrested after getting trapped in vehicle

  • Crime-Courts

Faulty car doors turned out to be a blessing for an owner, according to police.

Jeison Henriquez Sanchez, 19, of Pleasantville, was allegedly trying to burglarize a vehicle parked outside the Longhorn Steakhouse in Mays Landing, police said.

The victim called police and said that when he walked over to his car, there was a unknown man sitting inside.

"At this point in a motor vehicle burglary investigation, officers would typically be searching through video surveillance, looking for fingerprints or attempting to locate evidence that would help identify the suspect," Hamilton Township police wrote in a Facebook post. "But that wasn’t the case here."

It turns out the car has faulty doors, and only the owner knew the trick to opening them.

Sanchez was unable to get out until officers arrived and opened it for him — and then took him into custody.

He is charged with burglary. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on unrelated charges.

Chief Michael Virga and his department remind vehicle owners to remove any valuables from their vehicles and "LOCK YOUR DOORS (unless you too have a faulty door)!"
