Margate's Fall Farmers Market features new items, more vendors

  • Community

MARGATE – Thanksgiving dinner will be extra special this year for those families who attended the city’s Fall Community Farmers Market Sunday at Steve and Cookies By the Bay restaurant.

Not only was the verandah filled with Jersey Fresh produce and makers of artisan food products, but the vendors flowed into the main dining area where people lined up for samplings of a new product this year – the most beautiful cupcakes you can imagine.

There were more than 30 vendors in attendance and the front and verandah bars were both open, making for a lively and festive pre-Eagles game activity on a sunny Sunday at the shore.

    Flower cupcakes

New vendor SinDcSweets of Somers Point was the talk of the market this year. Cindy Capritti, whose intricately decorated cupcakes can be seen on Instagram, said she has gotten adept at turning out cupcakes decorated as roses, sunflowers, violets and chrysanthemums, in a fairly short time. Customers were three-deep to ogle and purchase her fabulous creations, which she was selling for a reasonable price. Shoppers even had their choice of small and large bouquets of flower cupcakes, which would brighten up any holiday table. Shoppers milled about showing off their flight of cupcakes, which were delicately displayed in clear plastic totes.

    Microgreens

The farmer at Gardening Neighbor of Egg Harbor Township was selling microgreens planted just 10 days ago and clipping them fresh from the flat. He explained that he plants the seeds about two weeks before any farmers markets or vendor events he attends and sprouts them in his greenhouse.

Jennifer and Keith Fox, who have a place a few blocks away, said it was their first time at the market, although they are no stranger to Steve and Cookies.

“We come here for dinner every weekend,” Keith Fox said.

In their bag of purchases, which included a beautiful ceramic bowl from Jane Diamond Ceramics, was a mini, pre-packaged charcuterie board from Florida Cold Cuts in Ventnor.

“We are hoping to eat it at the bar with a Bloody Mary,” Jennifer Fox said.

Debbie Flaks of Lafayette Hill, PA, and her two friends found seats at the front bar. Next to them were bags filled with goodies.

“This is our first time here,” Flaks said. “I bought carrots and sweet potatoes from Reeds Farm, and I will be taking them all the way home to Pennsylvania for my Thanksgiving dinner.”

Enjoy some photos from the event.
