Shop Small Weekend draws Margate shoppers to the avenue

  • Community

The Margate Business Association drew shoppers to the Ventnor Avenue business district Saturday with a festive after-Thanksgiving shopping extravaganza.

The event included a parade, costumed characters, interactive activities for children and adults, and free pizza and soft drinks at Bocca Coal Fired Bistro.

Members of the Mainland Regional High School Cheerleading Team entertained a large crowd gathered in front of the restaurant. Children were anxious to meet their favorite holiday visitor - Santa Claus, who arrived aboard a Beach Patrol surf boat. Santa was eager to chat with hearing impaired children using American Sign Language.

Inside, children got sparkling hair extensions, made arts and crafts and had the opportunity to give Santa their holiday wishes. One little boy, no older than 6, said he was waiting for Santa to put in his request - a new iPhone.

USA DJ was out in front greeting revelers and playing their favorite holiday hits. Miss New Jersey Belle Nicholas greeted children and parents, posing for pictures and signing autographs. Families lined up to visit the Sustainable Margate table where they were rewarded with a small trinket for correctly answering a question about the environment.

Enjoy some more photos from the event.
