MARGATE - As perfectly fine houses are torn down to make way for elevated McMansions, the Margate City Fire Department is taking advantage of the opportunity to practice their skills.
The department Wednesday and Thursday participated in realistic training on a house on N. Douglas Avenue that’s slated for demolition.
Firefighters ran though a fire attack on a smoke filled building. It started with forceable entry, then hose line advancement and operations, followed by search and rescue, and ventilation of the building. The ventilation training included vertical rooftop ventilation with firefighters using saws to cut a hole in the roof.
“We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the property owners and American Demolition for providing this invaluable opportunity for realistic training,” Fire Chief Dan Adams said. “Anytime we can perform this type of training, it gives our firefighters an opportunity to train in real-life situations that allows them to hone in on their skills to be better prepared to handle real life emergency situations.”
