Atlantic City approves construction of new homes on Brigantine Island

  • Real Estate

Atlantic City has approved construction of 20 new homes on its property at the south end of Brigantine.

The property at the base of the bridge on the outbound side is within the resort's property, but on Brigantine Island.

That means coordination between the two communities has been important throughout the planning process, Brigantine Mayor Vince Sera said in making the announcement.

Brigantine has been working closely with Atlantic City officials and the project developer to help minimize any potential impacts this development may have on Brigantine residents and infrastructure, he said.

Because Atlantic City has no practical way to provide water and sewer service to this location, Brigantine will supply those utilities under a shared services agreement, he explained.

The Absecon Inlet makes it difficult for Atlantic City to connect these homes to its own water and sewer systems. Atlantic City, however, will remain responsible for all other municipal services, including police, fire and public works.

Brigantine is currently finalizing the agreements with Atlantic City and the developer to ensure that all utility connections and service responsibilities are clearly defined before construction begins.

The developer will be able to move forward with construction once those agreements are complete.
