MARGATE – The city swore it two new firefighters Oct. 16, bringing the department to full staff, Fire Chief Dan Adams said.
Commissioner of Public Safety Cathy Horn swore in Justin A. Forman and Patrick K Armstrong Jr. to serve as firefighters.
“It’s a great day anytime we can swear in new firefighters and make promotions,” Adams said. “Hiring these two firefighters today takes us back to full strength. This past summer we worked short-staffed on two shifts. There were no interruptions in services, we provided excellent services but now we will be able to provide even better service.”
Foreman is a lifelong resident of Margate, when through the Margate schools, is a graduate of Ocean City High School and attended Stockton University and obtained a BA in Finance. He has worked at Scott’s Dock for 10 years and is a certified EMT. He will complete training at the fire academy on Oct. 31.
Armstrong is a second-generation firefighter. His dad is Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Armstrong, who currently serves as mayor of Longport. The Longport resident also attended the Margate schools and is a graduate of Ocean City High School. He attended University of Alabama, and is a volunteer firefighter in Longport and a member of the Longport Beach Patrol.
He comes to the department already certified as a firefighter and EMT. Adams said Armstrong took time last summer to attend the fire academy full-time to be ready to start his firefighting career in Margate.
“His ability to do that shows how he endeavored to be here today,” Adams said. “We look for him following in his dad’s footsteps.”
