ATLANTIC CITY - AtlantiCare has announced that it has achieved numerous distinctions for clinical excellence from Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital.
Among AtlantiCare’s distinctions are 17 clinical achievements, placing the health system among America’s 100 best for cardiac interventional procedures and cardiac care, and in New Jersey’s top five for overall cardiac services. AtlantiCare was also named one of Healthgrades America’s 50 best hospitals for outpatient joint replacement and orthopedic surgery. Together, these recognitions reaffirm AtlantiCare’s position as a regional leader in specialty care and reflect its longstanding commitment to exceptional patient outcomes.
“We’re proud to be recognized again by Healthgrades for the quality of care our teams deliver every day,” President and CEO Michael Charlton said in a release. “These awards are the result of their resiliency and relentless dedication to our patients and community. Excellence at this level comes from people who show up every day and never lose sight of why they do this work.”
AtlantiCare’s achievements are based on patient outcomes. Each year, Healthgrades evaluates risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top hospitals in key specialty areas, including cardiac care, cardiac intervention and orthopedics. Through easy-to-understand, objective measures of hospital performance, Healthgrades empowers patients with the information they need to find a hospital that excels in their procedure or condition.
“These distinctions reflect the exceptional skill and commitment of our clinicians and the systems that support them,” Chief Physician Executive Dr. Joseph V. Lombardi said. “Delivering world-class care requires precision and accountability, and that’s what defines AtlantiCare. Our goal every day is to provide every patient the best possible care and experience, close to home.”
As performance gaps persist between the nation’s highest- and lowest-achieving facilities, seeking care at a top program has never been more important. Healthgrades’ 2026 analysis revealed that if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2022-2024 study period, on average, 230,466 lives could have been saved and 156,797 complications could have been avoided.*
“Healthgrades’ specialty awards identify the nation’s top-performing hospitals in key service areas, helping consumers find high quality care tailored to their specific needs,” said Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “We’re proud to recognize AtlantiCare for its consistently superior outcomes in key service areas, including cardiac care, coronary intervention and orthopedics.”
