Dr. Nora Gold Explores 18 Jewish Stories (in 18 Languages) from Around the World, Tuesday, Nov. 18, 7 p.m. on Zoom

Zoom in for a captivating literary event with Dr. Nora Gold, featuring her newest work, "18: Jewish Stories Translated from 18 Languages." The program is free to attend, but advance registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Dr. Gold’s remarkable collection brings together eighteen Jewish stories - each translated into English from a different language - spanning from Albanian to Yiddish. Rather than defining what makes a Jewish story “Jewish,” this anthology allows the authors’ diverse voices to shine, reflecting the richness of global Jewish experience. Readers are invited to travel across continents through tales that are by turns compelling, humorous, and deeply moving. Together, these stories reveal both the diversity and the shared threads of Jewish culture, offering moments that will make you laugh, cry, and think. This free program is in conjunction with Beth Shalom of Brigantine.

Throwback Thursday Brunch: Jewish-Owned Businesses That Shaped Historic Atlantic City at Shirat Hayam, Thursday, Nov. 20, 10:30 a.m. at Shirat Hayam in Ventnor

The Board of Jewish Education invites the community to a special program, The Jewish Owned Businesses of Historic Atlantic City (Part 1), hosted by Josh Cutler.as  part of the popular Throwback Thursday Brunch series. Attendance is free, but advance registration is required.

From the 1880s onward, Jewish entrepreneurs played a vital role in shaping Atlantic City’s reputation as a premier seaside resort. They established rooming houses, kosher hotels, groceries, pharmacies, shops, restaurants, theaters, and clubs that served both locals and tourists. Thriving along the avenues and boardwalk, Jewish-owned businesses offered everything from souvenirs to fine dining. By midcentury, hundreds of kosher hotels welcomed summer visitors, while Jewish-owned shops built a strong commercial presence throughout the city. Although much of the Jewish community later relocated to Ventnor, Margate, and Longport, their legacy remains central to Atlantic City’s rich history.
