Baltimore Grill offering free kids' meals to SNAP families in November

  • Community

An Atlantic City landmark is making sure no kids go hungry in light of the federal freeze on SNAP benefits starting next month.

More than 800,000 state residents are expected to me affected when their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds don't come through beginning Nov. 1.

The state attorney general has joined nearly two dozen others in his position along with three governors in a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture, saying the move is illegal and unnecessary since the USDA has access to billions in SNAP-specific contingency funds appropriated by Congress for this purpose.

But one Atlantic City eatery says it doesn't care about the political battle.

"No kid will go hungry on our 48 blocks," Tony's Baltimore Grill announced in a Facebook post Thursday.

Anyone showing a SNAP card can get a free meal for every child present, the post says.

"Kids should always be off limits," the posts says, stressing that this isn't charity, "just being decent human beings."
