Pleasantville man struck by car hours after losing home to fire

  • Community

A Pleasantville man was struck by a car Tuesday, just hours after he and his family lost their home to a fire.

Roberto Vidanos-Martinez was collecting donations left for his family, when he was struck at the intersection of New Road and Park Avenue, according to Pleasantville police.

The driver, Amira Hare-Jones, 28, of Pleasantville, stayed at the scene. The crash is under investigation.

Vidanos-Martinez, 32, was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he is on a ventilator and is being treated for a multitude of injuries, his wife, Veronica Sanchez said.

The family already was reeling after losing their Wesley Avenue home to a fire at about 5:45 that morning.

"I lost my house, guys," Vidanos-Martinez said in a video posted to Facebook, where he goes by Peeto TheBarber.

The family of 10 was displaced, including a 1-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy.

"In just minutes, everything we owned was gone — our clothes, furniture, memories, and all the things that made our house feel like home," Vidanos-Martinez's sister, Ashley Martinez, wrote in a GoFundMe. "We were lucky to make it out safely, but it’s heartbreaking to lose everything so suddenly. Right now, we’re just trying to find a way to get back on our feet, especially for the little ones who are scared and confused."

Now, the family is rallying around her brother who suffered devastating injures.

"Any help — whether it’s donations, clothes, or even sharing this — would mean the world to us as we try to rebuild after this tragedy," Martinez wrote.
