Downbeach towns scale back protected beaches during ‘Locals’ Summer'

DOWNBEACH - As the tourism season closes, students go back to college, and the weather cools a bit before fall sets in, Downbeach towns scale back coverage of guarded beaches. 

Some beaches will be open daily over the next two weeks, but lifeguard coverage is limited to just a few protected beaches in Ventnor, Margate and Longport. 

As always, public safety officials remind beachgoers that to protect themselves, they should only venture out into the ocean in locations where lifeguards are present.

The following beaches will be covered 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. depending on weather conditions.

Ventnor

Open daily through Sept. 14

Margate

Open Tuesday-Friday, Sept.2-5

• Cedar Grove Ave

Open Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 6-7

• Jefferson Ave

Longport

Open daily through Sept. 14 and Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 20-21
