Downbeach will never forget Sept. 11, 2001 when the world changed. Several members of local fire departments went to assist after two airliners used as weapons of mass destruction took down the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The Pentagon in Washington, D.C., was hit, and a plane crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania devastated families of those lost in the attacks.
Margate will hold its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9 a.m. sharp Thursday, Sept. 11 at Fire Station No.1, Washington and Ventnor avenues.
The service will last about 30 minutes and include prayers by local clergy, musical tributes and comments from local public officials.
All are invited to share in the evnt.
Also at 9 a.m., Longport American Legion Post 469 will hold its September 11 Memorial Ceremony at Thomas B. Reed Park at 28th and Oberon avenues (at the foot of the Longport bridge).
The ceremony will be brief but meaningful way to commemorate the tragic events that claimed the lives of 2,996 people.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Ventnor will be participating in the Saracini-O'Neill 9/11 Ceremony starting at 10 a.m. (Rain date 10 a.m. Sept. 12), on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at Jackson Avenue.
Victor Saracini was the Captain and Pilot of United Flight 175 that crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center and John O’Neill who was the Director of Security at the World Trade Center and a retired FBI Director of Anti-Terrorism.
The event includes Sandpipers Pipes & Drums of Atlantic County, patriotic songs, a sand sculpture by John Gowdy and a memorial flag presentation.
