MARGATE – Two officers were promoted Thursday, Sept. 4 to higher ranks in the Margate Police Department.
John “Jack” Schall was promoted to the rank of sergeant, creating an opening for a new full-time police officer. Brett Grodziak, who has served as a Class 2 officer this summer, was promoted to full-time patrol officer.
Schall has been with the Margate Police Department since 2018 when he was hired as a Class 2 officer. He was later promoted to a full-time position and has served as a field training officer, is a member of the department’s motorcycle unit, and is a LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) instructor at the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School.
Grodziak was hired in January and graduated from the Atlantic County Police Academy in July. He started as a Class 2 officer and passed his working test period, Police Chief Matthew Hankinson said.
Commissioner of Public Safety Cathy Horn administered their oaths of office.
