  • Education

MAYS LANDING – Atlantic County Institute of Technology automotive students Russell Vizzi and Gavin Martyn earned top recognition at the Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia’s 2026 Tech Competition. Competing against 280 students from across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, ACIT’s hands-on training and industry aligned curriculum propelled both students to rank among 24 finalists invited to the competition’s hands-on phase. Vizzi also secured the highest score on the written exam, outperforming all competitors.

“At ACIT, we prioritize real-world experience and high expectations, and Russell and Gavin exemplify what that approach makes possible,” Principal Joseph Potkay said. “Their success reflects the strength of our automotive program and the commitment our students bring to mastering their craft.”

The competition challenged top students through a rigorous five-hour series of 12 OEM-sponsored workstations designed to test technical knowledge and communication skills across the automotive service field. Vizzi and Martyn navigated each station with confidence, applying the skills and principles they developed through ACIT’s comprehensive training.

ACIT’s impact extends beyond the classroom. Through partnerships with industry leaders like Chapman Ford and a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, students gain advanced experience that prepares them to excel in competitive environments. Vizzi and Martyn strengthened their expertise through dedicated after-school training, demonstrating the drive and discipline that define ACIT students.

“I congratulate both students on embracing this opportunity and have no doubt that they will continue to excel as they challenge themselves in the years ahead,” Automotive Instructor Curt Silver said. “They represent the very best of what automotive students can achieve through hard work, curiosity, and determination.”
